Head of Accounting

As a Head Of Accounting in Porto, you will lead the accounting function for an international organisation.

You will ensure accurate financial records and clear reporting that supports sound business decisions.

Description

• Lead and oversee accounting operations across multiple Group companies and SPVs, ensuring consistent accounting standards and practices.
• Manage monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing processes across a complex multi-entity structure.
• Lead the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements, including consolidation adjustments, intercompany eliminations and reconciliation of Group balances.
• Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of multi-currency transactions, foreign exchange differences, foreign currency balances and translation adjustments.
• Ensure compliance with Portuguese GAAP (SNC) and applicable IFRS requirements.
• Oversee accounting treatment of complex transactions, including intercompany financing, shareholder loans, bonds, fixed assets, construction and development costs, provisions and accruals.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support Group reporting requirements, including financial information from international subsidiaries.

Profile

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or a related discipline.
• Extensive professional experience in accounting and financial reporting, including leadership of accounting teams.
• Proven experience in financial consolidation within complex, multi-company structures.
• Strong technical knowledge of Portuguese accounting standards (SNC) and IFRS.
• Solid experience in statutory closing, external audits and internal controls.
• Demonstrated ability to manage accounting across numerous legal entities and SPVs.
• Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Hands-on management style, combining strategic oversight with the ability and willingness to engage directly in technical and operational matters.
• Fluency in English.
