We are seeking a Systems Operations Engineer to support the reliability, security, and ongoing evolution of the infrastructure powering a large-scale customer documentation ecosystem.
The environment includes cloud-hosted services and virtual machines across multiple data centers, using a mix of cloud and virtualized platforms including GCP and other infrastructure technologies.
This role will act as a key technical point of contact for the documentation ecosystem, ensuring stable operations, secure integrations, reliable infrastructure, and a consistently high-quality experience for users and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain Linux servers and services across cloud and virtualized environments, including GCP and on-premises virtual machines.
- Manage server user accounts, permissions, access rights, and security compliance.
- Install, upgrade, patch, and maintain base software and applications across server environments.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across servers, applications, databases, and system integrations.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term corrective solutions.
- Administer and optimize PostgreSQL databases, including backup and recovery processes.
- Configure, maintain, and support Apache HTTP Server environments.
- Support identity and authentication integrations, including Azure SSO, SAML, and OIDC.
- Maintain and support Git-based development and operational workflows.
- Develop automation, monitoring, and operational tooling using Perl, Python, and shell scripting.
- Lead and coordinate new tooling and platform initiatives, including scoping, planning, execution, and stakeholder communication.
- Document system architectures, configurations, processes, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate closely with product, IT, security, engineering, and documentation teams.
- Continuously improve the reliability, security, scalability, and efficiency of the infrastructure environment.
- Strong experience operating Linux servers in cloud and virtualized environments.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure, or AWS.
- Strong scripting skills using:
- Perl
- Python
- Shell scripting
- Strong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience with Apache HTTP Server.
- Practical experience with identity and SSO technologies, including:
- Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID
- SAML
- OIDC
- Experience working with Git-based workflows.
- Solid understanding of IT security principles and operational security best practices.
- Strong technical documentation and process-management skills.
- Experience coordinating or managing technical projects across multiple teams.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- An interest in improving infrastructure, developer workflows, and documentation platforms.
- Ability to take ownership of technical issues from investigation through resolution.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail and a focus on delivering reliable, high-quality solutions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate initiatives across multiple teams.
- Knowledge of IP or optical networking technologies.
- Experience supporting technical documentation platforms or publishing pipelines.
- Familiarity with structured content and automated documentation workflows.
- Experience supporting infrastructure used by engineering or software-development teams.
