This is a Staff Software Engineer seat on a product engineering team. You will build modern applications that deliver real value with quality, and play a pivotal role in shaping the technology and raising the engineering bar, championing best practices, mentoring engineers, and driving technical decisions across teams.
Responsibilities:
Engineering & code quality
- Write clean, maintainable code in .NET C# that sets the standard for other engineers on your team, alongside modern tools such as Kafka and ElasticSearch.
- Regularly deliver high-quality, working software as part of a software development team.
- Build a deep, expert understanding of your team's codebase.
- Provide highly insightful, comprehensive code reviews with an eye toward bigger-picture concepts.
- Drive technical decision-making at a high level, expertly identifying trade-offs and risks and considering organisation-wide technical alignment.
- Pre-empt technical risks, raise awareness, and coordinate mitigation.
- Help provide direction and vision to technical improvements, and drive change across multiple teams.
- Help define SRE standards so teams can effectively monitor their applications in production and respond quickly to incidents.
- Effectively diagnose the root cause of complex bugs using deep knowledge of both code and infrastructure, and provide a fix along with an automated regression test.
- Ensure documentation exists for all critical systems, and write technical guides used widely by other engineers.
- Mentor, coach, and empower other engineers. Share knowledge regularly through demos and presentations.
Experience
- At least 10 years working hands-on with .NET C#, with expert-level experience and expertise.
- Technical leadership experience (3+ years), including mentoring other engineers, e.g. leading projects or initiatives, leading a team, or organizing engineering community events.
- A track record of quickly learning complex architectures and codebases and becoming an expert, and of tackling the most complex technical problems independently.
- Evidence of driving complex technical decisions involving multiple stakeholders in critical areas.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Expert C#.NET experience and expertise (10+ years).
- Deep understanding of how to apply microservice architectures successfully, with expert knowledge of many patterns and techniques and their trade-offs, in more than one context.
- Significant (2+ years) experience with event-driven architectures and event streaming / messaging tools such as Kafka (preferred), Pulsar, or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with NoSQL databases, ElasticSearch (preferred), DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Redis, and a clear sense of which database best fits each use case.
- Strong knowledge of deploying and scaling cloud applications, including containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Proven ability to identify opportunities for best-practice improvements and drive change across multiple teams.
- Fluent English required.
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field.
- Excellent communicator: able to communicate clearly and effectively, adjusting style to the audience.
- Works effectively as part of a team, contributing to the dynamic and resolving conflicts constructively.
- Adapts quickly and embraces change; a champion of continuous improvement.
- Shows initiative in tackling problems, executes pragmatically, and makes data-driven decisions.
