Engineering Manager (AI-First)

Position overview
This is a permanent, full-time role to lead an engineering team and own what it builds and why. Your team works on Intapp’s AI-first product development lifecycle (PDLC) platform — the system that connects how our engineering teams plan, design, build, and ship product. It spans personal AI tools (like Claude Code and Cowork), a layer of managed agents (such as intent extraction and requirements readiness), and a persistent Digital Thread that ties the work together. You own its direction and the outcomes it drives for the engineers who depend on it every day.
We are deliberately open to strong senior engineers ready to step into leadership: what matters most is technical credibility, a product-minded instinct for what’s worth building, and conviction about how AI changes the way teams build. You’ll own the outcome for your team’s area — not just shipped features, but the result: defining what success looks like, measuring it, and being accountable for it. If you’ve led people formally, great — if you haven’t yet, we’ll support your growth into engineering leadership.
You’ll join an engineering organisation that is AI-first by design — AI is part of every stage of how we build product, not bolted onto the end. You’ll lead one of our Lisbon product engineering teams and work in a hybrid model (3+ days/week in office) from our Lisbon R&D Centre in Parque das Nações.

About Lisbon
Intapp chose Lisbon for its engineering talent and that decision is reflected in what the centre has already become. The Lisbon R&D team has 50 team members that work on the full engineering stack: backend, frontend, full-stack, QA automation, data and ML, DevOps, and database engineering. These aren’t supporting functions for work happening elsewhere. They’re teams with real product ownership, working directly on the platforms that Intapp’s clients depend on.
Our ambition is clear: Lisbon is being built as a flagship R&D location alongside Palo Alto, Charlotte, Belfast, and Berlin. Engineers who join now help shape how the centre works: its culture, its practices, and its role in Intapp’s global engineering organisation.
What you will do:
- Lead and grow a team of engineers — their delivery, their development, and their day-to-day.
- Own what your team builds and why — set direction, define success metrics, and hold the team accountable to outcomes, not just shipped features.
- Own and prioritise the team’s backlog against measurable impact — so engineers always know what to build, and how and when it will be used.
- Champion AI-first practice from the front: be a hands-on user of the team’s AI tools, set the example, and own your team’s AI-first adoption — accountable for it and measured on it.
- Shape the managed-agent and tooling roadmap for the platform — decide what gets built, define readiness criteria, and measure whether it’s actually changing how teams work.
- Translate business needs from stakeholders and SMEs into clear, actionable work, partnering across product, design, engineering, and operations.
What you will need:
- A hands-on software engineering background — you’ve built and shipped production software yourself, with the technical credibility to lead engineers.
- A product-minded approach to engineering — good instincts and awareness of product principles, so your team builds the right things, not just builds.
- A track record of growing people — mentoring, leading projects, or developing the engineers around you (formal management experience welcome but not required).
- You already work AI-first and want to set that standard for a team — with hands-on use of AI tools day to day, and enough understanding of AI agents and context to own the spec with your engineers.
- Comfort leading with data — using delivery, usage, and quality signals to drive prioritisation and decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication, comfortable with both engineering and business audiences.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field. Fluent English.
What would be nice to have:
- Prior people-management experience.
- Experience driving change or adoption across a team or organisation.
- Familiarity with engineering productivity metrics and dashboards.
- Background in enterprise software or B2B SaaS environments.
