We are looking for a Sr Manager Semantics & Knowledge. The role can be based in Albarraque (Portugal) or Krakow (Poland). Only candidates already in these locations will be considered.
In this role you will own and govern the enterprise meaning layer, including how business meaning is structured, managed, and exposed for consistent consumption across systems. The enterprise meaning layer comprises the shared business concepts, entities, dimensions, reference data, taxonomies, and ontologies that underpin data analytics, reporting, AI grounding, and interoperability.
This role ensures that when PMI says "Consumer", "Market", "Product", or "Brand", the meaning is consistent across everyone and every system.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
- Coordinate, structure, and steward PMI’s core business concepts (e.g. Customer, Consumer, Product, Market, Brand) and dimensions (e.g. hierarchies, attributes, codes, and classifications) across domains, ensuring alignment between business stakeholders while maintaining a consistent enterprise representation.
- Design and govern enterprise semantic models for business meaning and structure.
- Ensure concepts are stable, unambiguous, and reusable across functions, domains, and markets.
- Cover conceptual models, taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, and SKOS‑aligned ontologies.
- Ensure semantic models are operationalised and consistently consumed across systems and platforms.
- Own and evolve enterprise semantic capabilities and services that operationalise business meaning.
- Define and manage how enterprise concepts are structured, stored, and exposed as reusable assets for downstream consumption.
- Establish and govern semantic services (e.g. APIs, semantic layers, knowledge models) enabling consistent use of enterprise meaning across BI, AI, and applications.
- Ensure enterprise concepts are not only defined, but accessible, reusable, and consumable at scale across systems.
- Partner with data, platform, and engineering teams to embed enterprise semantics into data products and consumption layers.
- Define standards and patterns for how semantic logic is implemented across tools and platforms.
- Own the enterprise business glossary.
- Ensure it is the authoritative source of business meaning and that concepts are clearly defined, contextualised, and stewarded.
- Control the lifecycle of enterprise concepts to balance stability with evolution.
- Actively prevent semantic fragmentation across the organisation.
- Enable adoption of enterprise semantics across domains and downstream use cases.
- Identify, document, and actively manage dependencies between enterprise concepts, dimensions, and related data objects.
- Strong grounding in data modelling (conceptual, logical). University degree in a related field or equivalent working experience.
- Experience with business glossaries/data catalogues (Atlan, Collibra, Alation, etc.)
- Experience with semantic standards (SKOS, RDF concepts - even if theoretical)
- Deep comfort working with business stakeholders on ambiguity and meaning
- Governance mindset: decision rights, stewardship, escalation
