Job Overview

Hypha International School is seeking a qualified and passionate educator to teach both European Portuguese and Physical Education to students in pre-primary and primary grades. The ideal candidate will have native-level fluency in European Portuguese and experience working with young children in dynamic, student-centered learning environments. The teacher will support students in developing literacy, writing, and oral communication skills in Portuguese, while fostering a love for the language and culture.

Key Responsibilities

Portuguese Teacher:

  • Teaches Portuguese as a Non-Native Language (PLNM) to international students as well as Portuguese to native speakers
  • Supports students at varying levels of Portuguese proficiency through differentiated instruction
  • Foster a positive language-learning environment where students feel confident to practice and grow
  • Helps students gain confidence in speaking, reading, and writing in Portuguese
  • Integrates real-life language skills and experiences into lessons, such as navigating daily conversations or engaging in community experiences for PLNM students
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and leadership to monitor progress and support cross-curricular learning
  • Promotes appreciation for Portuguese language and culture within the school
  • Set clear objectives and success criteria, while using formative assessments and immediate feedback to track progress.

Physical Education

  • Leads PE classes across pre-primary and primary grade levels
  • Encourages physical activity, teamwork, coordination, and healthy habits
  • Designs fun and inclusive games, sports, and movement-based activities
  • Set clear objectives and success criteria and provides immediate feedback to track progress.
  • Supports students’ well-being and social-emotional development through physical learning
  • Helps organize school-wide physical events like sports days or outdoor games

Requirements

  • Native-level fluency in European Portuguese
  • Bachelor’s degree and qualification in Education
  • More than 3 years of relevant teaching experience, with a strong foundation in literacy
  • Experience teaching Portuguese as a mother tongue to primary and pre-primary age children (3 – 11 years old)
  • Passion for education and commitment to student-centered learning
  • Compassionate, creative, and adaptable approach to teaching.
  • Highly skilled in differentiation techniques to support diverse learning needs.
  • Passion for innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
