The Strategy & Transformation Practice is one of the largest practices at Bain, and at the heart of some of our biggest client success stories. We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation, with new hooks, points of view, products, tools and delivery models that bring together the best thinking from our most successful client heads and senior strategists, to stretch our client’s definition of full potential, embed change within their organizations, and deliver results. The Strategy & Transformation Practice team works very closely with partners, senior managers and teams to bring Bain’s best experience and the latest tools and innovations to bear across sectors and offices. They are integral in helping Bain win new cases and advising our case teams on difficult strategy and transformation questions.

The Business Strategy Practice Consultant role is part of our Business Strategy solution team, which consists of a Global Solution Leader, multiple Practice Managers, Senior Managers and Directors who collectively manage the overall solution IP, support commercial opportunities and IP/tool development, and a knowledge management team. The solution team also has access to BCN resources to aid in IP development and SKU delivery.

The Strategy GenAI Incubator sits within Business Strategy and focuses on turning breakthrough AI capabilities into practical, high-impact tools for Business Strategy case teams. You will be helping Bain stay at the forefront of innovation, harnessing technology to enhance the way we solve strategic business problems.

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

The Business Strategy Practice Consultant role is a critical one for the Strategy & Transformation Practice, supporting Business Strategy product and IP development and deployment, and client and case team support. The Strategy GenAI Incubator turns breakthrough AI capabilities into practical, high-impact tools for Bain’s Business Strategy case teams. The Business Strategy Practice Consultant will play a significant role in helping develop and embed innovative technology solutions – with a focus on AI – into the Business Strategy solution, working closely with the Practice Senior Manager overseeing the Strategy GenAI Incubator.

What You’ll Do

Solution Incubation: Discover, prototype, and scale high-value GenAI tools

  • Surface opportunities for high-impact AI use cases within Business Strategy for prototyping
  • Turn high-impact ideas into minimum-viable products—most often MyGPTs or other custom GPTs inside the ChatGPT Enterprise environment or lightweight agentic applications
  • Scale existing MyGPTs into full-fledged custom GPTs and other lightweight agentic applications
  • Own the innovation backlog, aligning new ideas with practice priorities and resource constraints
  • Gather Partner and case team feedback, and drive the continual evolution of our Strategy GenAI solutions

GenAI Case Team Support: Embed AI tools and insights into case team engagements

  • Support high-priority Business Strategy pitches with cutting-edge AI insights
  • Partner with case teams to weave AI tools into live engagements from day one
  • Help case teams customize GPTs for client-specific use cases
  • Track usage and outcome metrics and circulate best practices across case teams

GenAI Marketing and Training: Drive firm-wide awareness and adoption

  • Lead hands-on trainings to boost GenAI adoption and confidence across Bain’s Strategy General Consulting staff and Practice team
  • Create demo videos, one-pagers and pitch decks to market the Incubator’s GenAI tools
  • Capture and socialize best practices to accelerate firm-wide GenAI literacy
  • Maintain usage dashboards and success stories

Other AI Advisory and Practice-Area Support

  • Support high-priority Business Strategy Practice IP with AI insights
  • Advise practice leaders on practice vision enabled by tech/AI, overall product roadmap, prioritization, build/buy/partner and other strategic decisions to maximize innovation
  • Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders and resource groups across Bain including the Core Innovation Team, Vector, BCN/BCN Labs, Next Gen Software Solutions among others
  • Establish evergreen process to monitor competitor offerings and tech/AI advancements and translate into insights that inform product roadmap and investment decisions
  • Monitor external GenAI breakthroughs, brief senior leadership on strategic implications, and scout new startup partnership opportunities

About You

A great candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science degree or similar preferred). MBA is preferred but not required.
  • 3+ years of professional experience must include:
    • Personal passion and excitement to learn new technologies, market trends and how AI will change how work is done; demonstrated track record of technical affinity and familiarity with common GenAI tools and technologies (e.g., ChatGPT, building custom GPTs)
    • Experience working closely with internal and external users to deeply understand, document, analyze, and synthesize user needs into product priorities, roadmap plans, and detailed specifications
    • Facility/aptitude with product development life cycle for digital technologies
    • Relevant experience or interest in digital solutions as a lever to drive business results
    • Ability to structure and execute complex business research and analysis in fast-paced environment, as well as the skills to drive to pragmatic business insights
    • Demonstrated track record of influencing senior leadership to drive action and impact.
  • Technical toolkit (bonus, not required)
    • Python for prototyping & API orchestration
    • Familiarity with GenAI stacks (e.g., ChatGPT Enterprise, LangChain, vector DBs) and ML frameworks
    • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and basic DevOps / MLOps practices
  • Additional skills and experience
    • Exceptional communication skills that enable building cross-functional relationships and managing projects across multiple teams; experience and proficiency creating high quality presentations
    • Demonstrated track record of working in diverse teams with a variety of skillsets and expertise
    • Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills with a proven track record of being a self-starter
    • Previous experience in consulting is a plus
