Summary
With the recent acquisition of Vision-Box, AirOps has significantly expanded its operations in Lisbon. We have now reached a stage where we can launch a new Europe-based Agile Release Train (ART).
This ART will focus on the exciting domain of Seamless Travel, covering key areas such as Border Control, Biometrics, and the Seamless Journey Platform, among others.
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) act as a servant leader, supporting and coaching the train members to accomplish the train's mission. Facilitate the ART events and processes and assist the teams in delivering value. Facilitate the train ceremonies and be the guardian of the SAFe train artifacts; communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risks, and strive to improve this all in a robust way, restlessly. The Principal Release Train Engineer (RTE) is evolving in a context of a self-contained ART, with limited cross-ART dependencies.

Common Accountabilities
- Proficient in technical knowledge to ensure team performs at a high level. Is recognized as a leader in own area and may formally train Specialists/Senior Specialists.
- Understands how main business drivers may impact on own area. Can assess complex problems with broad impact on the activity, improve processes, recommend solutions and risk mitigation plans. Able to communicate complex information.
- Works with a high level of autonomy, based on management directions. Leads projects or contributes to broad cross-functional projects. May contribute to planning of resources and budget.
- Through his/her technical/functional expertise, their network and their understanding of the business context, the Principal RTE guarantees the efficient delivery of the ART mission and the creation of a more flow of value through the ART. Among his/her responsibilities are:
The RTE is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train and:
- Is a key change agent
- Create an environment of mutual influence, encourages personal development and support the commitment made by the train
- Listen and support people on problem identification and decision making
- Is responsible for implementing SAFE model best practices by federating & coaching train
- Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
- Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering
- Ensure predictability of the train, availability and transparency of the train's SAFe artifacts
- Manage and optimize the flow of value through the release train
- Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities
- Budget definition and dispatch, implementation of the lean budgeting
- Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
- Track and communicate key ART execution metrics
- Ensure Alignment by organizing & facilitating Program Increment Planning Events
- Facilitate System Demos and Solution Demos
- Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
- Is the master of ceremonies at train level
- Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
- Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
- Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment
- Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
- Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings
Continuous Improvement
- Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve
- Help drive the Lean User Experience (UX) innovation cycle
About the Ideal Candidate
- Academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent; 6-8 years’ experience developing software solution;
- 2-4 years of professional experience coordinating multiple concurrent product and/or project deliveries in scaled Agile environments;
- SAFe Release Train Engineer Certification or related is a plus;
- Previous experience using Jira/Confluence to document, plan and report the deliveries.
- Organizational Competency - Capacity of managing complex deliveries involving multiple R&D teams.
- Communication - Capacity to clearly conveying information to the different teams involved in the delivery trains.
- Teamwork - Capacity of collaboratively working with a big team towards the company goals.
