Job Description

A crucial part of our Company is represented by our Global Buying Offices, where resident buyers and sourcers purchase goods locally and scout regional markets looking for exciting products for our stores.

Global Buying Offices in Europe are present in Italy, UK, Portugal and Spain and we have Associates also in Poland and the Netherlands.

Conduct market research and recommend sourcing opportunities to TJX buyers and the internal sourcing team, managing goods across all categories. Coordinate buyer visits to manufacturers and oversee the order process from vendor selection to final inspections and shipping.

  • JOB SUMMARY

Conduct regularly market research on sourcing opportunities for assigned product brands or market sectors for TJX buyers and internal sourcing unit with Supervisor’s direction. The associate market representative can handle goods in all product categories under supervision.

Assists with the logistics and schedules for buyer trips to factories or manufacturers. Monitor order from placement with vendor, sample distribution, to final quality inspection and shipping.

Duties And Responsibilities

Conduct ongoing research on products in assigned sector scouting regularly the internal and possible external markets. Collect information from existing suppliers on product availability and opportunities, price, orders and market trends. Attend trade shows to review market goods and trends, in Portugal and abroad.

With Supervisor’s guidance communicate with buyers on various opportunities found on the market to allow for evaluation and possible purchase. Organize and take part regularly to trips and appointments to maximize the buyer’s time and results. Accompany the buyers for the entire trip - both in Portugal and abroad - during the selection and negotiation process in order to facilitate the definition of the order.

Follow up the orders giving appropriate instructions to manufacturers for preparation and shipment of the merchandise. Communicate orders’ changes to TJX merchandise group, and intervene to make sure that merchandise is shipped without discrepancies. Alert Supervisor of potential problems with orders which could impact shipping timetables.

Obtain reference samples of merchandise for sending/approval to the buyer or product development team.

Once the order is ready for shipping, carry out quality control at vendors’ premises, keeping in mind the requirements of the customer in terms of quality, packaging and shipping methods. Prepare a report and inform Supervisor in case of issues.

Evaluate with Supervisor that potential new vendors and factories can meet TJX’s standards and requirements for Social Compliance and Cargo Security Programs.
