We are looking for a Senior General Ledger Accountant & Tax Officer to join the Finance Team. The position will be based in Porto and you will report to the Finance Manager.

The Senior General Ledger Accounting & Tax Officer, working alongside colleagues in Dublin, Milan, and Amsterdam, will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of accounting activities. This includes preparing, processing, and controlling financial information in compliance with applicable regulations. Additionally, the role involves developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures.

As a Senior General Ledger Accounting & Tax Officer, you will be responsible for the standard day-to-day local general ledger accounting activities as well as monthly, quarterly, and yearly tasks. These include variance analysis of profit and loss and balance sheet with presentation to management, reviewing accruals, posting manual entries, preparing balance sheet reconciliations and following up on open items. You will support the preparation of tax, regulatory, and statutory reporting for existing and future Euronext Group legal entities, primarily UK entities. You will also support statutory audits, drive continuous process improvement, apply internal control procedures, and coordinate with other functions such as corporate secretary, treasury, tax, legal, and consolidation.



Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger & Financial Closing

  • Oversee and coordinate month-end, quarterly, and yearly financial closing.

  • Perform variance analysis of P&L and balance sheet and report findings to management.

  • Review and post accruals and manual journal entries.

  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and follow up on open items.

  • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of accounting entries.

  • Conduct data analysis and prepare related reports.

Audit & Controls

  • Assist with internal and external financial audits.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, procedures, and policies.

  • Complete internal control checklists as required.

Tax & Statutory Reporting

  • Prepare monthly corporate tax provision and supporting documentation.

  • Support the preparation and filing of annual corporate income tax returns.

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly VAT returns.

  • Prepare annual financial statements.

  • Coordinate statutory audits with external auditors and provide requested information.

  • Provide information to auditors and tax authorities.

  • Prepare and file quarterly statistical reports with the Office for National Statistics.

Intercompany & Regulatory Coordination

  • Perform intercompany accounting and ensure proper reconciliation.

  • Liaise with corporate secretary, legal, tax, and treasury to ensure completeness and compliance.

  • Report in accordance with IFRS.

Payroll & Other General Accounting Activities

  • Record payroll transactions.

  • Maintain accuracy in all general accounting processes.

  • Execute other general accounting-related tasks as needed.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and reengineering.

Profile:

  • Strong understanding of the purchase and invoicing process

  • Knowledge of Finance ERP solution(s) and reporting tools (preferably MS AX, Excel).

  • Excellent English skills (written and spoken); proficiency in an additional European language is desirable

  • High proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel

  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and speed in data entry

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Graduate accounting degree or qualified education in finance and accounting according to local education system (ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualification is an advantage)

  • Strong accounting background with analytical skills

  • Accounting experience (5 years+)
