We're on the lookout for a Laboratory Technician – Optical Systems and Bioanalysis to join our dynamic R&D team at Seedsight. Our mission is to revolutionize agriculture and food commodities trading and processing through cutting-edge optical sensing technologies—and we need your expertise to make it happen. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you'll play a crucial role in advancing our technology by applying laboratory precision, technical expertise in optical systems, and strong organizational capabilities to support the development and implementation of novel measurement technologies.
Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Technician – Optical Systems and Bioanalysis, your role will include the following responsibilities:
- Sample Preparation & Optimization: Prepare, manage, and optimize protocols for biological and agricultural samples (with a focus on cereals). Ensure consistency, reproducibility, and readiness for optical analysis.
- Optical Measurements & Data Acquisition: Operate optical systems (e.g., spectrometers, light sources, OSA) to perform data collection. Support calibration procedures and assist in interpreting results for R&D use.
- Laboratory Operations & Stock Management: Oversee lab inventory and consumables, manage procurement workflows, and maintain up-to-date stock records to ensure operational continuity.
- Internal Documentation Management: Create, update, and organize key internal documents, including SOPs, acquisition protocols, budget records, and invoices. Maintain accurate, audit-ready records.
- Quality Control & Technical Feedback: Monitor sample preparation and measurement workflows for compliance with internal standards. Report issues and suggest improvements to team leads.
- Instrument Maintenance & Support: Perform routine maintenance on optical and electronic lab equipment. Troubleshoot basic issues and escalate more complex problems when necessary.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with scientists and engineers to ensure smooth integration between sample preparation, measurement, and data handling processes.
Qualifications
Education: Higher Technical Professional Course (CTeSP) or Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Biotechnology, Laboratory Sciences, or related fields.
Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years in a laboratory setting, with experience in biological sample preparation and familiarity with optical or analytical measurement systems.
Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience with sample handling and lab procedures in bio/food-related contexts.
- Comfort with managing lab documentation, SOPs, and inventory systems.
- Familiarity with optical lab equipment (spectrometers, light sources, optical sensors) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of optical principles and measurement techniques is a plus.
